Naval Group Launches Innovative Subsidiary Center in Alexandria
Naval Group has officially inaugurated its subsidiary in Egypt, called Alexandria Naval for Maintenance and Industry. This new organization is dedicated exclusively to the maintenance of vessels designed by Naval Group. It strengthens the sustainable footprint of Naval Group in Egypt for both current and upcoming naval projects.
The lasting partnership between Naval Group and the Egyptian Navy, along with the local manufacturing sector, has reached a pivotal milestone with the establishment of a subsidiary aimed at supporting Naval Group’s vessels and future maritime endeavors. This success was achieved through effective contractual discussions regarding the In Service Support (ISS) framework.
This strategic alliance between Naval Group and Egypt significantly contributes to the global prominence of the Egyptian Navy and supports its modernization efforts. The new subsidiary will enhance these initiatives by providing a continuous local presence.
This entity will enable the Egyptian Navy to attain an exceptional level of performance throughout the entire lifecycle of its vessels. Alexandria Naval for Maintenance and Industry (ANMI) will ensure maximum efficiency of the vessels and facilitate upcoming upgrades to the four Gowind corvettes, two LHDs, the FREMM, and other potential ships.
The maintenance activities will complement the successful industrial cooperation project, which backs the construction of three locally assembled Gowind corvettes. This operational subsidiary will act as the primary platform to foster ongoing dialogues with Egyptian stakeholders regarding the multiannual naval contracts. The newly formed organization is expected to generate direct and indirect job opportunities across associated industrial sectors in Egypt.
“Naval Group is profoundly dedicated to maintaining the operational efficiency of the Egyptian Navy’s vessels for the long haul. The multiannual maintenance agreement signifies a substantial achievement and will bolster the industrial capacity for ANMI,” remarked Nathalie Smirnov, Naval Group’s Executive Vice President in charge of Services.
The formation of this subsidiary represents another positive development in Naval Group’s long-term collaboration with Egypt. In July 2014, the Ministry of Defense of the Arab Republic of Egypt formalized the agreement for the construction of four Gowind corvettes. The first unit was built in Lorient and delivered to Egypt in September 2017. The second unit is currently under construction through technology transfer at Alexandria Shipyard and was launched in September 2018. Additionally, Naval Group delivered the FREMM multi-mission frigate Tahya Misr in August 2015. Moreover, in June 2016, Naval Group provided two Mistral-class Landing Helicopter Docks to the Egyptian Navy.
