Capitalizing on a robust presence in the United Arab Emirates, Leonardo is partaking in the Dubai Airshow 2023 (13-17 November), showcasing its key strengths in the electronics and helicopter domains, along with comprehensive systems and training solutions and support services. The Company, however, is also focusing on the significant national interest in emerging technology fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Space, and Cyber Security innovations.
Leonardo boasts a presence exceeding 50 years in the UAE, which stands as one of the Company’s major export hubs, offering a highly varied portfolio of products, services, and partnerships across both the civil and defense industries. Over 100 helicopters are operational in the nation for VIP transport, energy sector support, search and rescue, and security, complemented by one of Leonardo’s premier logistics hubs in collaboration with local partner Abu Dhabi Aviation. Furthermore, 45 naval vessels are operational featuring systems, radars, communication technologies, and weaponry supplied by Leonardo. Noteworthy is the Aermacchi MB-339 trainer, along with its associated training capabilities provided to the Al Fursan aerobatic team.
Leonardo now aspires to enhance its strategic alliance with the country, broaden collaboration with local enterprises and institutions across industrial and technological spheres, and provide training for highly skilled professionals. For instance, in the space domain, Leonardo’s industrial proficiency comprehensively encompasses the entire value chain: from satellite and orbital infrastructure manufacturing, equipment, and high-tech sensor production to satellite service management, propulsion, and launch systems. Consequently, with this expertise, Leonardo is strategically positioned as an optimal collaborator for initiatives in the space arena.
Cyber Security also represents a critical area of focus. Alongside recent collaboration with Khalifa University to offer certification and training programs in Abu Dhabi, the Company is poised to equip the nation with its expertise in bolstering digital infrastructure resilience against cyber threats and response capacities. The Cyber Security landscape increasingly intersects all sectors and will intensify in the foreseeable future. This necessitates concerted efforts to safeguard not just digital and physical infrastructures, but also systems, platforms, communications, and mobility from their initial design stages.
Data collection, analysis, application, and protection are essential for these evolving technology sectors. Harnessing some of the most powerful high-performance computing and Artificial Intelligence capabilities available in aerospace, defense, and security, Leonardo is equipped to manage every phase. The davinci-1 HPC significantly advances the Company’s digitization efforts with its 200 servers, 5 million billion floating-point operations per second, and an impressive memory of 20 million gigabytes. Leonardo is prepared to assist governmental and institutional agencies in their digital transformation strategies to enhance community security and service delivery.
At the Dubai Airshow, Leonardo is also unveiling its technological capabilities, reinforcing its strong and competitive standing in key sectors. The Company is showcasing the TMMR (Tactical Multi-Mission Radar),
which is a multi-domain dual-use radar adept for anti-drone operations and Counter Rocket, Artillery, and Mortar (C-RAM) applications, ensuring robust short-range air defense, platform, vehicle, territorial, and infrastructure protection. Moreover, the Osprey multi-function electronically scanned array radar is designed for extensive land and maritime surveillance.
An Italian Guardia di Finanza AW169 helicopter is being showcased in a static display, featuring one of the most up-to-date, comprehensive, and sophisticated configurations with several innovative technologies in integrated sensors and mission-essential equipment. This aircraft is scheduled to embark on a demonstration tour throughout the country in the upcoming weeks. The incorporation of skids, performance enhancements, and the certification of dedicated SAR – Search and Rescue modes, along with future advantages of an increased gross weight and expanded capacity, will position the AW169 as the optimal solution for modernizing fleets utilized in the region for public services and energy sector assistance.
