Saab Unveils Cutting-Edge Anti-Ship Missiles to Strengthen Sweden’s Naval Defense

Saab has finalized a deal with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration to bolster Sweden’s coastal anti-ship missile capabilities. The cumulative order value totals SEK 800 million, with shipments expected to initiate in 2026. A substantial share of the order revenue was reported in the third quarter of 2024.

This agreement involves Saab’s RBS15 Mk3 anti-ship missile, which is integrated on a launch system attached to a vehicle. At present, Sweden utilizes the previous RBS15 Mk2. The coastal anti-ship missile capability was reestablished in the Swedish Armed Forces in 2016 and will now be enhanced with the RBS15 Mk3 on advanced launch systems.

“Sweden will witness a significant enhancement in capability with an anti-ship missile that features a more advanced target seeker, extended operational range, and a larger warhead. The RBS15 is meticulously crafted for the complex environment and harsh weather conditions typical of the Baltic Sea,” proclaims Görgen Johansson, leader of Saab’s business division Dynamics.

RBS15 Mk3 boasts an effective range surpassing 200 km, can be launched from naval vessels and ground vehicles, and is primarily targeted at maritime objectives. The system is innovatively developed and produced by Saab in collaboration with its German partner, Diehl Defence.
