“Sailing into History: Royal Saudi Navy Celebrates ‘Project Tuwaiq’ with HMS King Abdullah Keel-Laying Ceremony”

The Royal Saudi Navy recently commemorated a significant achievement by marking an essential milestone in the development of its third vessel under the esteemed “Project Tuwaiq.” The ship, officially designated “HMS King Abdullah,” had its keel laid during a celebratory ceremony conducted in Marinette, Wisconsin, USA.

Rear Admiral Majid bin Hazzaa Al-Qahtani, the distinguished leader of the Royal Saudi Navy’s Eastern Fleet, had the privilege of laying the keel for this state-of-the-art warship.

The keel-laying phase is regarded as one of the crucial stages in shipbuilding, closely aligned with American customs. Serving as the longest structural component of the vessel, it signifies the initiation of the shipbuilding endeavor.

Just last year, in October, the Royal Saudi Navy proudly initiated the keel for the second ship within the framework of “Project Tuwaiq,” a strategic initiative designed to enhance and modernize the capabilities of the Royal Saudi Navy. The program involves the construction of four multi-mission combat vessels, set to become essential assets in maritime combat.

The four ships, including “HMS King Abdullah,” are equipped with cutting-edge advanced combat technologies, enabling them to engage with unmatched accuracy against aerial, surface, and subsurface threats.

Undoubtedly, these formidable vessels will significantly boost the combat efficacy of the Royal Saudi Navy, strengthen maritime safety in the region, and passionately protect the kingdom’s strategic and vital interests.

“Project Tuwaiq” transcends mere shipbuilding; it represents a holistic approach to training and qualification programs for the ship crews. Moreover, the project endorses innovative training simulations, logistical and technical assistance, and a streamlined supply chain. It’s a cooperative endeavor aimed at transferring and localizing crucial technical and technological proficiencies.

This dedication to localization resonates with the Crown Prince’s forward-thinking announcement, as the initiative seeks to achieve 50% localization of total military expenditure by 2030. It signifies a forward-looking step in enhancing the nation’s defense capabilities and promoting self-sufficiency in the field of security and defense.

The Royal Saudi Navy’s undertaking in “Project Tuwaiq” embodies its unwavering commitment to enhancing and securing its maritime capabilities, ensuring stability in the region, and reinforcing global peacekeeping initiatives. As the keel is laid for “HMS King Abdullah,” the future of the Royal Saudi Navy shines brighter than ever.
