UAE Navy Enhances Defense Power with Cutting-Edge Raytheon RAM Block 2 Integration

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (Feb. 19, 2017) — The United Arab Emirates Navy officially contracted Raytheon in a multi-million-dollar direct commercial agreement for a confidential quantity of Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAMs) Block 2, alongside complimentary equipment, training, and support.

RAM is acknowledged as a premier self-defense weapon system for ships. This supersonic, lightweight, rapid-response, fire-and-forget solution is meticulously designed to protect vessels against anti-ship missiles, helicopters, aircraft, and surface ships.

“The Emirates are dedicated to protecting their investments in naval capabilities, and that’s precisely what RAM missiles provide,” stated Chris Davis, president of Raytheon International Inc. in the UAE.

The missiles are expected to bolster the security of the Emirates’ Baynunah-class corvettes, which serve the UAE Navy for surveillance, interception, coastal security, helicopter missions, and various defense operations.

Alan Davis, Raytheon’s Director of short-range defense systems, emphasized that the RAM Block 2 is ideally suited for the UAE Navy as it “offers protection against advanced threats that maneuver quicker than other systems can counteract.”
