Rheinmetall and Escribano Unveil Cutting-Edge Modules for the Mission Master SP A-UGV

Rheinmetall and Escribano Mechanical & Engineering (EM&E) have partnered in recent months to showcase two innovative Rheinmetall Mission Master SP modules equipped with EM&E sensors and armament systems. A series of presentations took place at EM&E’s cutting-edge facilities in San Juan del Viso, attended by Spanish governmental representatives, including the Army Chief of Staff and international delegations. A special demonstration for His Majesty King Felipe VI was also conducted at Viator, located in the Province of Almería in southern Spain.

The showcases featured two Mission Master SP Autonomous Unmanned Ground Vehicles (A-UGVs). For these events, a Mission Master SP – Fire Support was outfitted with the Escribano Guardian 2.0 Remote Weapon Station (RWS), while a Mission Master SP – Surveillance was equipped with the Escribano OTEOS sensor array. Utilizing the mast-mounted OTEOS, the Mission Master SP – Surveillance successfully identified a threat and automatically relayed its coordinates to the Mission Master SP – Fire Support, activating a slew-to-cue response. Various operational modes of the Mission Master were demonstrated, including follow-me, autonomous navigation, and convoy capabilities.

Live firing exercises with the Mission Master SP – Fire Support, fitted with the Escribano Guardian 2.0 RWS in the Dillon Aero M134D configuration, were executed using UGV/RWS portable controllers integrated with a safety board framework, enabling secure wireless firing. As with all Mission Master undertakings, targets are never engaged automatically. A human operator remains a critical element for all kinetic decisions.

For Rheinmetall Canada, this series of presentations in Spain signifies the inaugural integration of an EM&E payload onto its Mission Master SP A-UGV and marks its first partnership with a Spanish enterprise. This achievement highlights Rheinmetall’s expertise in system integration and the expanding capabilities of its Mission Master product line.
