Kongsberg Triumphs with Groundbreaking NOK 12 Billion Contract for Cutting-Edge NASAMS and NOMADS Solutions in the Netherlands

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (‘KONGSBERG’) has secured a deal with the Dutch government for the supply of NASAMS and NOMADS aerial defense systems.

The estimated value of the agreement is around NOK 12 billion.

This contract was formally established on November 21, following KONGSBERG’s declaration on October 14, when the Dutch government presented a proposal to Parliament, outlining its ambition to acquire these advanced systems as part of the CITADEL initiative, a comprehensive integrated air and missile defense framework.

“By selecting NASAMS and NOMADS, the Netherlands will enhance its aerial defense competencies with a cohesive solution that mitigates short- and medium-range dangers. The Netherlands continues to be an essential contributor to the expansive NASAMS user community, and we are excited to welcome the nation as the first international NOMADS client,” commented Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace.

The Netherlands initially acquired the NASAMS framework in 2006. These latest purchases will elevate and expand the nation’s ground-based aerial defense capabilities. The CITADEL initiative also encompasses the National Manoeuvre Air Defence System, NOMADS – a highly versatile air defense solution equipped with short-range missiles engineered for the protection of ground troops in unstable and contested combat environments. NOMADS is flawlessly integrated with NASAMS and various NATO platforms, promoting autonomous and interconnected operations across different units.

Deliveries are anticipated to commence in 2028.

NASAMS (National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System) is recognized as the world’s first functional Network Centric Short to Medium Range Ground-Based Air Defense System, crafted by KONGSBERG in collaboration with Raytheon from the United States.
