BAE Unveils Cutting-Edge IFF Tech for E-2D Hawkeye Aircraft
The U.S. Navy has granted BAE Systems a $26 million agreement for Identification Friend-or-Foe (IFF) components for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft. Under this agreement, BAE Systems will supply Beamforming Networks (BFNs), a crucial element of antenna management for the AN/APX-122A IFF Interrogator system, installed on the carrier-capable tactical aircraft.
“These systems will enhance situational awareness and provide early alerts for U.S. Navy sailors and combat personnel,” stated Donna Linke-Klein, director of Tactical Systems at BAE Systems. “The Advanced Hawkeye is vital for efficient battle management, command, and control, and our interrogator technologies empower operators to discern friendly forces and make educated choices in a variety of threat scenarios.”
The AN/APX-122A IFF Interrogator system enables definitive identification of friendly aircraft, equipping E-2D Advanced Hawkeye operators with the situational insight required to successfully accomplish their missions. These missions encompass command and control, border surveillance, search and rescue, and missile defense. The AN/APX-122A IFF Interrogator system is specifically engineered for the E-2D, due to the demanding specifications for this aircraft.
BAE Systems’ IFF aircraft identification technologies deliver timely intelligence that minimizes friendly fire occurrences, bolsters mission effectiveness, and preserves lives – particularly in hostile situations. BAE Systems has been at the forefront of IFF systems innovation for over seven decades, having supplied more than 14,000 transponders, 1,500 interrogators, and 6,000 integrated interrogator transponder systems for various platforms.
