German Parliament Greenlights Third Phase of OCCAR Night Vision Project

Theon International Plc (THEON) has announced that the Defence and Budget Committees of the German Parliament sanctioned a new amendment to the OCCAR contract yesterday, activating the 3rd consecutive option, with an additional option of comparable magnitude still up for grabs. The Consortium of HENSOLDT Optronics GmbH and THEON SENSORS SA has been requested by OCCAR to formalize the aforementioned amendment on 20 December 2024 in Bonn, Germany.

The initial agreement for the Production and In-Service Support of Binocular Night Vision Goggles (BNVG) with the international entity OCCAR was finalized in July 2021. To date, 49,550 Mikron BNVG (powered by Exosens 16 mm tubes) have been contracted for provision to German and Belgian Armed Forces. Per this contract amendment, the Consortium will persist in supplying THEON’s Mikron BNVG to deliver several thousand additional goggles to Germany.

Christian Hadjiminas, Founder and CEO of THEON, expressed: “The recent activation of the option, occurring sooner than anticipated, reinforces the successful partnership among the entities engaged in this contract and underscores the essential nature of night vision capabilities for armed forces. Moreover, we observe a consistently high demand on a global scale, as military operations increasingly acknowledge the significance of sustaining operational abilities both during daylight and nighttime. Consequently, access to tubes has become crucial. This effectively justifies a) the acquisition of Harder Digital earlier this year along with investments to enhance capacity, b) the long-term agreements it has begun to forge with tube manufacturers, notably Exosens.

Consequently, THEON has initiated the corresponding options to further amplify tube orders from Exosens for 2026 and beyond, as part of our comprehensive framework agreement from 2025-2027. Anticipated new order inflow is expected to persist in the upcoming year.”
