Sky Sentinel 400 Alpha: Revolutionizing Long-Distance Aerial Monitoring

Thales unveils the newest addition to the Ground Master radar family, the GM400 Alpha. This groundbreaking 3D long-distance air surveillance radar boasts 5 times greater processing capability, an expanded detection range of 10% (up to 515 km), innovative artificial intelligence algorithms, and enhanced cybersecurity measures, establishing it as the most reliable radar available for extensive air monitoring.

In light of the diverse and evolving threats, constructing a dependable, precise, up-to-date Recognized Air Picture (RAP) poses a significant challenge. To uphold airspace sovereignty, forces must depend on resources that provide exceptional situational awareness at all times.

Building on years of successful GM400 deployment experience, GaN technology, and surveillance proficiency, Thales’ GM400 Alpha enables operators to identify all threats at both short and extended ranges continuously and at various levels.

Equipped with digital stacked beam technology, the GM400 Alpha detects targets ranging from high-speed jets and missiles to hovering helicopters and UAVs. A standout feature of the GM400 Alpha is its ability to detect and monitor threats, including tactical UAVs flying near the ground, concealed in clutter close to the radar, while simultaneously tracking high-altitude targets like fighter-bombers at distances of up to 515 km.

Utilizing the latest processing technology, which is 5 times more efficient, and advanced detection algorithms, the radar can handle vast volumes of intricate data. This results in an instant enhancement in detection range, extending up to 515 km or 278 NM, signifying an increase in coverage area of over 20% compared to the GM400, without altering the power demands of the transmitter or receiver components of the radar. The boost in processing capacity also introduces possibilities for integrating upcoming advanced features using state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms alongside fortified cybersecurity measures.

“Currently serving 17 countries globally, the Ground Master 400 radar family is a trusted and established ally for air surveillance. The software design and processing framework of the GM400 Alpha facilitate easy upgrades for existing GM400 systems, ensuring the radars remain resilient against emerging threats. Some of our clientele have already initiated the upgrade of their GM400 systems.” Serge Adrian, Senior Vice President Surface Radars Division, Thales.
