Hensoldt Unveils Cutting-Edge Avionics Computers with Innovative “Cavion” Lineup
HENSOLDT, a provider of sensor and avionics solutions, is introducing an innovative line of avionics computers under the “CAVION” brand, which substantially enhances the capabilities of current computers designed for mission management aboard various flying platforms.
“With ‘CAVION’, we have crafted a computer architecture that leverages the capabilities of contemporary processor technologies for fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), while also facilitating aeronautical certification across numerous platforms,” states Celia Pelaz, Chief Strategy Officer and head of the Spectrum Dominance/Airborne Solutions division at HENSOLDT. “This enhances the efficacy of these aircraft while ensuring optimal flight safety.”
The “CAVION” series is founded on a proprietary development of electronic modules by HENSOLDT, which permits the deployment of multi-core processors even in safety-critical environments, while also securing their aeronautical certification on any platform—be it helicopters, mission aircraft, fighter jets, or drones. Historically, certifying multi-core processors for aerospace applications has posed significant challenges due to the unpredictable nature of the process flows within these processors. Utilizing HENSOLDT’s newly engineered multi-core processor boards, the computers in the “CAVION” series are markedly more robust than the previously employed generation of avionics units, with a strong emphasis placed on certifiability. The offerings in the “CAVION” family are available in multiple modular configurations for flight control of the specific aircraft, specialized military operations, and as mission computers for law enforcement and emergency services.
HENSOLDT is already delivering avionics computers and mission systems for platforms such as the Eurofighter combat aircraft, the A400M transport aircraft, and the NH90 helicopter, and is also engaged in the development of self-protection systems and sensors compatible with various aircraft types.
