Hensoldt Revamps Identification Systems for Enhanced Short-Range Air Defense

As a provider of sensor and encryption solutions, HENSOLDT France is supplying its IFF identification system (IFF= Identification Friend or Foe), the Mode 5-capable MSR1000I interrogator designed for Ground-Based Air Defense (GBAD) systems to MBDA.

MBDA has placed an initial order for the provision of 13 MSR1000I IFF interrogators for very short-range air defense purposes for undisclosed international clients.

This new agreement signifies the inaugural phase in a fruitful collaboration between MBDA and HENSOLDT France regarding the MSR1000I IFF system.

The IFF technology plays a crucial role in all military operations, enabling field commanders to swiftly differentiate between friendly and enemy units by automatically sending interrogation and reply signals. By enhancing security with advanced cryptographic algorithms, Mode 5 IFF minimizes the risk of friendly fire incidents and optimizes combat effectiveness across air, land, and maritime domains.

Specifically engineered for defense against low-altitude air threats, particularly helicopters and low-flying close air support aircraft, the MSR1000I can be seamlessly integrated into ground-based stations, vehicles, or naval vessels. With its adaptable configuration, the MSR1000I can be utilized with a diverse array of platforms, from man-portable versions to setups equipped with directional or rotating antennas for 360° panoramic surveillance. Upgraded with the latest NATO Mode 5 or NSM encrypted modes featuring universal cryptographic computer compatibility, the MSR1000I is a certified solution. Over 200 units are currently being deployed globally.
