Hensoldt’s Cutting-Edge Radars Shield German Urban Centers
Sensor expert HENSOLDT is delivering six advanced radars to the German Armed Forces as part of Diehl Defence’s IRIS-T SLM aerial defense system. This initiative is part of a contract with Diehl Defence valued in the hundreds of millions of euros, with the first unit scheduled for delivery to the Bundeswehr next year.
Thomas Müller, CEO of HENSOLDT, remarked: “This contract fills a capability deficit within the Bundeswehr while simultaneously marking the commencement of the European Sky Shield Initiative (ESSI). Collaborating with our partners Diehl and Airbus, we are enhancing both national and alliance defense capabilities.”
TRML-4D employs cutting-edge digital radar technology. It excels at detecting, tracking, and classifying various types of aerial threats. Particular attention is given to small, rapid, and low-flying or maneuvering cruise missiles, as well as aircraft and helicopters. This system guarantees the swift detection and monitoring of approximately 1,500 targets within a range of up to 250 km. Multiple systems are contracted to enhance Ukrainian aerial defense.
The collaborative solutions from Diehl Defence, Airbus, and HENSOLDT are entirely compatible with NATO’s integrated air defense framework and have demonstrated their interoperability.
HENSOLDT boasts decades of expertise in air defense radar systems and is actively advancing the development of crucial technologies within this sector. Alongside the TRML-4D multifunction radar, the company’s offerings also encompass the Twinvis passive radar, the Spexer product line, and radars for securing maritime and aerial traffic. HENSOLDT provides radars for the German Navy’s new frigates and corvettes, along with surveillance of German airspace and approach control at Bundeswehr airfields, among other applications.
