Raytheon: Accelerating Tomorrow’s Defense Solutions
Raytheon Intelligence & Space’s high-energy laser technologies utilize photons, or light particles, to perform military operations and civilian defense. This directed energy innovation facilitates threat detection, maneuver tracking, and accurate visual confirmation to neutralize a diverse array of risks, including Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, rockets, artillery, and mortars.
Raytheon Intelligence & Space’s extensive array of counter unmanned aircraft system (CUAS) functionalities defends against agile unmanned threats and larger drone swarms.
Our laser systems are actively deployed
In 2019, the U.S. Air Force introduced our inaugural High-Energy Laser Weapon System, HELWS, to international locations, and it is now approaching 4,000 operational hours. Now approved for combat scenarios, several additional systems are currently deployed in the field.
The ideal defense for a variety of targets
RI&S’ laser weapon systems are functional on land, in the skies, and at sea, delivering 360-degree protection that safeguards bases, airfields, stadiums, and other high-value military or civilian infrastructures. The system’s open architecture readily accommodates mission requirements, while our rugged packaging enables it to function as an independent solution or can be quickly fitted to various military platforms. RI&S has successfully finalized full installation and testing on smaller Army vehicles and an Apache attack helicopter as well.
Cost-efficient solution for countering small UAS
With a low cost-per-shot ratio, HEL serves as an economical and effective means to safeguard military and critical infrastructure, rapidly neutralizing threats. Lasers present an almost unlimited number of shots, minimal logistics, and pinpoint precision with minimal collateral damage, rendering it a cost-efficient alternative to conventional munitions.
