Raytheon Intelligence & Space Launches Production of Advanced Mid-Band Jammer
Raytheon Intelligence & Space, a segment of Raytheon Technologies (NYSE: RTX), has secured a $171.6 million contract for Low-Rate Initial Production Lot I, or LRIP I, of the U.S. Navy’s Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band. This contract propels the initiative from the conceptual phase into manufacturing and deployment.
NGJ-MB represents the Navy’s sophisticated electronic warfare system, designed to actively deny, disrupt, and diminish adversary technologies, including air-defense frameworks and communication networks. NGJ-MB leverages cutting-edge digital, software-driven, and Active Electronically Scanned Array technologies. This empowers operators to engage numerous targets without physical munitions and from greater ranges.
“With its strength and capability to jam multiple radar systems concurrently, NGJ-MB is set to revolutionize the manner in which the Navy executes airborne electronic assaults,” stated Annabel Flores, vice president of Electronic Warfare Systems for RI&S. “NGJ-MB will enhance the survivability and firepower of fourth- and fifth-generation fighter aircraft, thereby significantly boosting the effectiveness of naval aviation.”
The contract follows the recent Milestone C determination, moving the initiative into the manufacturing and deployment phase. NGJ-MB has successfully completed over 145 hours of developmental flight-tests utilizing mission systems and aeromechanical systems. Additionally, the program has finalized more than 3,100 hours of anechoic chamber and laboratory assessments at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, and Naval Air Station Point Mugu, California. Chamber evaluations examined the system’s efficacy both on and off the EA-18G Growler aircraft, along with jamming methodologies and reliability assessments.
