Rheinmetall Revamps Multi-Sensor Systems for Norway’s Air Dominance
Rheinmetall has entered into an agreement with the Norwegian Defence Material Agency (NDMA) to upgrade the Multi Sensor Platform MSP500.
The total worth of the contract lies in the low double-digit million-euro category. This framework agreement includes the replacement of the outdated MSP500 system that was provided in 2002, along with the associated simulators, with the advanced MSP600digital sensor system. The deployment of the new systems is scheduled to commence in the summer of 2025.
The Multi Sensor Platforms designated for enhancement are integral to the Norwegian air defense apparatus – the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS). These platforms are integrated into NASAMS batteries. Free from obsolete components, the MSP600digital represents a performance-optimized and HD-capable digital upgrade to the MSP500 as well as the MSP600 sensor platforms utilized by diverse military forces worldwide.
The MSP600 digital system is derived from the MSP600 setup, which is actively utilized by numerous navies, coastguards, and other military and civilian operators. The four-axis stabilized platform manages an electro-optical sensor suite, which includes a cutting-edge thermal imaging system (day/night vision), a precise laser rangefinder, and a high-definition color daylight camera.
