Roketsan Unveils ALKA: Revolutionizing the Future of Drone Protection

The Turkish defense firm Roketsan’s laser-activated energy weapon system, ALKA, plays an essential part in mitigating small drone threats.

In a published announcement, the company stated that the ALKA laser system is proficient at safeguarding critical military facilities and governmental establishments against threats that are challenging to engage with traditional firearms.

The organization elaborated that the nature of threats has progressed alongside technological advancements, prompting the need for innovative types of defense frameworks.

ALKA has effectively neutralized a multitude of small and mini drone threats since 2019, the announcement highlighted.

It is capable of tracking 100 targets concurrently utilizing its drone detection radar, ensuring dependable aerial defense within a range of 750 to 1500 meters.

Roketsan reported that the laser system functions both during the day and at night, can be deployed in urban environments, and is capable of detonating roadside improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as well as unexploded ordnance (UXO).

In the organization’s announcement, General Manager Murat İkinci highlighted that ALKA is notable for its ability to track and counter multiple threats simultaneously using its dedicated detection radar, alongside its capability to fend off drone assaults.

İkinci added that ALKA will be part of the “Iron Dome” initiative, which aims to deliver layered air defense over Turkey’s territory.

He concluded by stating, “After its integration into the Turkish Armed Forces’ arsenal, we are actively pursuing opportunities to export ALKA to friendly and allied nations.”
