RUAG Secures Contract for Innovative Containerized miFAP Solutions
The German procurement agency, BAAINBw, tasked RUAG with delivering containerized miFAP systems (multinational interoperable radio connection point) on behalf of the Bundeswehr. This initiative aims to enhance their command capabilities in both national and international operations. The Bundeswehr has ordered 14 fully-integrated, autonomous miFAP systems with a containerized design, a mobile demo vehicle showcasing miFAP functionalities, and an extensive training package. These systems not only ensure uninterrupted communication between military and civilian radio systems but also bring other benefits due to their containerization, such as rapid adaptability, versatile deployability, and autonomy from existing supply chains at the deployment site.
By December 2023, a total of 55 operational, transport, and storage containers (Betriebs-, Transport- und Lagerbehaltern, BTuLB) based miFAP systems had been effectively delivered to the Bundeswehr. This new follow-up project illustrates that, alongside top-notch communication solutions like the TAN T230, RUAG can also successfully implement turnkey system solutions in the third-party market.

The miFAP system acts as a robust communications hub and a universal voice and IP router, linking transmission networks and devices from various manufacturers and generations to create an interoperable solution. Through a provided operating terminal, up to six radio device groups can be configured and operated, aiming to ensure flawless communication between military and civilian radio systems and organizations. Furthermore, the system facilitates the integration of IP data interfaces and the establishment of uplinks to local networks or WANs (Wide Area Networks).
The integration of wireless bridges initially supplied in operational, transport, and storage containers (BTuLBs) into an HF-shielded container (high-frequency shielding) equipped with all essential supply systems continues our commitment to mobilizing deployment systems—a trend recognized across various armed forces for several years.
To guarantee immediate operational readiness at the designated location, the generators and air conditioning systems embedded in the container can be operated even during transport. This ensures optimal temperature regulation within the operations room and the miFAP system, allowing for immediate commissioning. Four integrated, electromechanically extending telescopic masts with pre-wired antenna connections complement this comprehensive concept.
Secondary markets are pivotal for RUAG, serving as catalysts for innovation. These avenues foster the ongoing development of solutions, ultimately benefiting the Swiss Armed Forces.
Such synergies guarantee that products intended for the Swiss Armed Forces remain at the cutting edge of technology. With these initiatives, RUAG is also establishing the ideal groundwork to prepare strategically for future VBS procurements while reinforcing its stature as a foremost provider of communication and specialized solutions.
