Saab Unveils the Innovative Giraffe 1X Deployment System
Saab unveils a new Deployment Set configuration for the Giraffe 1X radar, which will be showcased publicly for the first time at DSEI 2023.
The latest configuration is crafted to be easily transportable, swiftly relocated, and rapidly operational—attributes that are critically important in contemporary warfare or scenarios where aerial threats from any direction present a significant danger to fixed installations.
The Giraffe 1X Deployment Set is an easily deployable, compact, and resilient software-driven, lightweight 3D AESA radar. Its small profile and extensive search range (75 km) render it ideal for urgent missions with limited options. The Giraffe 1X Deployment Set is a flexible solution suitable for both mobile and stationary setups.
“The Giraffe 1X Deployment Set is a highly deployable asset designed to provide an immediate aerial picture post-deployment. We continually strive to minimize response times, allowing operational forces the opportunity to act swiftly,” states Carl-Johan Bergholm, the head of Saab’s Surveillance business sector.
Giraffe 1X equips commanders with high-quality air defense target information, drone identification for counter-unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and a capability to sense and warn against threats like rockets, artillery, and mortars. Giraffe 1X also ensures regular software updates to address evolving threats.
