
Saudi Arabia Greenlights Cutting-Edge Multifunctional Info Distribution Systems
The U.S. Department of State has authorized a potential Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for Multifunctional Information Distribution Systems and associated apparatus, with an estimated price tag of $101.1 million.
The Defense Security Cooperation Agency provided the necessary certification to inform Congress about this potential transaction on April 10.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has expressed interest in acquiring fifty (50) Multifunctional Information Distribution System-Low Volume Terminal (MIDS-LVT) Block Upgrade 2 (BU2) Terminals along with one hundred (100) additional MIDS-LVT BU2 Retrofit Kits. These items will supplement a previously executed case that was beneath the congressional notification threshold.
The initial Foreign Military Sales (FMS) case, appraised at $12.6 million, encompassed thirty-five (35) Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems (MIDS JTRS) and twenty-four (24) MIDS-LVT BU2 Retrofit Kits.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has additionally sought a new FMS case that comprises one hundred ninety-four (194) MIDS JTRS and thirteen (13) MIDS-LVT BU2 Terminals.
This notification pertains to a cumulative total of two hundred twenty-nine (229) MIDS JTRS, sixty-three (63) MIDS-LVT BU2 Terminals, and one hundred twenty-four (124) MIDS-LVT BU2 Retrofit Kits. Also included are TacNet Tactical Radios; Low Volume Terminal Cryptographic Modules; various communications devices; support apparatus; engineering and technical assistance; training; along with other associated elements of logistics and program support.
The projected total cost amounts to $101.1 million.
The lead contractor has yet to be determined, as there will be a competitive bidding process following case implementation. No known offset agreements are proposed in relation to this potential sale.
