“Thales Scorpion® Heads to the Skies: Korea’s FA-50 Fighter Enhanced for Poland”

Thales has declared that it has received a contract from Korea’s Aerospace Industries (KAI) to furnish FA-50 fighters for Poland with its highly acclaimed Scorpion® Helmet Mounted Display (HMD).

According to the stipulations of this agreement, Thales is tasked with customizing, integrating, and validating the Scorpion® HMD onto KAI’s FA-50 Fighting Eagle, as well as installing production systems to bolster the Republic of Korea’s FA-50 contract with Poland.

With its advanced digital cockpit, modern flight control system, and a remarkable suite of precision-guided munitions, the FA-50 is exceptionally equipped for all-weather combat missions both day and night. Scorpion® aligns perfectly as it provides a contemporary, digital platform that enhances pilots’ situational awareness.

The highly precise Scorpion® HMD features full-color symbology, instantaneous response time, and a unified display module suitable for both daytime and nighttime missions – all at minimized life-cycle expenses. The motion-tracking precision, utilizing Scorpion’s innovative Hybrid Optically-based Inertial Tracker (HObIT™), is notably superior compared to rival systems.

Thales anticipates that this contract is merely the beginning as the FA-50 becomes accessible to clients globally. Scorpion® is also readily adaptable to the T-50 Advanced Jet Trainer and TA-50 Lead-in Fighter Trainer, as HMDs are becoming essential for the majority of current and future military aircraft.
