Empowering Lithuania’s Defense: The Advanced Thales Ground Master 200 Radar System for Enhanced Counter Battery Capabilities
Capitalizing on the robust international NATO collaboration alongside strategic bilateral defense connections, the Lithuanian Defence Material Agency has formalized a contract with the Dutch procurement Agency COMMIT for the procurement of Thales Ground Master 200 Multi-Mission Compact radars (GM200 MM/C).
Crafted to tackle contemporary combat obstacles, the GM200 MM/C delivers precise simultaneous detection, tracking, and classification against all present and anticipated threats, including unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Thanks to the innovative 4D AESA technology, it grants radar operators increased time-on-target to accumulate as much information as possible regarding incoming threats. The system autonomously detects tracks, categorizes aircraft, missiles, helicopters, multiple UAVs, and Rockets, Artillery, and Mortar (RAM), making it particularly adept at weapon location and air defense.
Designed with cyber-security as a priority, the GM200 MM/C is enhanced by latest-generation software-defined radar innovations, allowing for future enhancements and capability expansion to adapt to the ever-changing landscape of threats and military doctrines. Furthermore, its compact form factor offers versatility from fixed-location operations to high mobility, with minimal deployment times and convenient transport across various platforms. Lithuanian collaborator ELSIS will assist Thales in this initiative, focusing on vehicle integration aspects of the solution.
Thales possesses vast and ongoing expertise in air surveillance and defense, covering everything from detection to neutralization. Its advanced technologies can counteract all kinds of threats, from drone countermeasures to ballistic missile defense systems, incorporating surface radars, airborne radars, command centers, communication networks, and different effector types.
“The acquisition and deployment of Multi-Mission radars Thales GM200 MM/C represents a crucial advancement in bolstering the artillery capabilities of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Moreover, this collaborative procurement opens up numerous avenues for strengthened cooperation with NATO allies in acquisition and support,” Mr. Sigitas Dzekunskas, Director of Defence Materiel Agency under the Ministry of National Defence of Republic of Lithuania.
“This Government-to-Government agreement between the Netherlands and Lithuania showcases the robust European defense collaboration. We take pride in being a part of this alliance among NATO nations, where our GM200 MM/C will enhance the safety and protection of military personnel and high-value assets.”, Gerben Edelijn, CEO Thales Netherlands.
