Pratt & Whitney Set to Establish Innovative Manufacturing Hub in Morocco
Pratt & Whitney, a division of RTX, has declared its intention to inaugurate an affiliate known as Pratt & Whitney Maroc (PWM) in Casablanca, aimed at producing intricate static and structural machined components for various engine models.
This investment is pivotal to Pratt & Whitney’s approach to cultivating cost-efficient sourcing capabilities for enhanced competitiveness and optimizing operational footprint alongside asset utilization. Morocco was chosen following a comprehensive global benchmarking analysis due to its burgeoning aerospace business ecosystem, affordable operational costs, and the availability of skilled talent.
“Morocco presents numerous advantages for aerospace manufacturing,” stated Maria Della Posta, President of Pratt & Whitney Canada. “The expanding aerospace network in Casablanca guarantees a highly skilled talent pool, a favorable economic atmosphere, and the backing from the Moroccan government. As an autonomous affiliate, Pratt & Whitney Maroc is anticipated to generate 200 jobs by 2030, and we eagerly await our integration into the business community within Casablanca’s MidParc Free Zone.”
“The P&W venture in Morocco will enhance our aerospace ecosystem by promoting innovation, research, and the advancement of new technologies. It will provide job prospects for our talented youth, encourage knowledge transfer, and stimulate collaboration between local and global stakeholders,” mentioned a representative from the Moroccan Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies (MICEPP).
This new 130,000-square-foot greenfield facility will be constructed employing lean principles and CORE methodology to boost efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. This investment is a critical component of the company’s capability to manufacture engines that meet soaring demand while bringing Pratt & Whitney nearer to its African clientele and collaborators, thereby amplifying support for aerospace expansion in this region. Construction of the facility is set to commence in Q4 2023, ensuring a successful launch in 2025.
Pratt & Whitney stands as a global frontrunner in the design, manufacturing, and servicing of aircraft engines and auxiliary power units.
RTX is recognized as the largest aerospace and defense entity worldwide. Effective July 1, the organization will finalize its reorganization into three customer-centric business segments: Collins Aerospace, Raytheon, and Pratt & Whitney. With 2022 sales reaching $67 billion, the company operates from its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, USA.
