Airbus Helicopters Unveils Groundbreaking H175 for American Skies

Mexico City, August 24, 2016 – The new 7-ton class helicopter has officially arrived in Mexico, enhancing the fleet of Transportes Aéreos Pegaso. This company specializes in air transport services tailored for the energy sector in the Gulf of Mexico. With this addition, Transportes Aéreos Pegaso becomes the first operator of this advanced helicopter on the American continent. A second H175 is scheduled for delivery in 2017, further expanding its capabilities to serve not only the Oil industry but also to facilitate seismic exploration in the Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

Enrique Zepeda Navarro, CEO of Pegaso, expressed pride in their longstanding partnership with Airbus Helicopters, stating, “We are among the first to operate this new helicopter, which has set the standard for medium-sized twin-engine rotorcraft. Our commitment is to provide safe, comfortable, and cost-effective transportation that is also easy to maintain.”

Transportes Aéreos Pegaso boasts a robust fleet of over 30 Airbus Helicopters, including H145s, H135s, H130s, and H155s. Recently, Pegaso signed a framework agreement for ten H145s, positioning itself among the first Latin American customers to pilot this state-of-the-art light twin.

Francisco Navarro, General Manager of Airbus Helicopters in Mexico, noted, “This delivery solidifies the trust and collaboration that has been built over more than three decades between Airbus Helicopters and Transportes Aéreos Pegaso. Our customers are integral to our operations, and this milestone reflects our commitment to delivering quality and safety in our services.”

The H175 for Transportes Aéreos Pegaso comes equipped with the latest Helionix® avionics suite, featuring a 4-axis autopilot to reduce crew workload while enhancing safety. Key advancements include an auto-hover function and the Localizer Performance with Vertical Guidance (LPV), making this the most precise GPS-enabled instrument approach procedure available, providing pilots with exceptional navigation support.

The H175 excels in multiple areas, showcasing long-range capabilities, smooth rides, excellent payload capacity, and superior cabin comfort. Since its operational debut in December 2014, the H175 has been actively supporting the oil and gas industry in challenging environments like the North Sea and Western Africa.

To date, over 100 H175 orders have been recorded from clients worldwide. The first VIP variant has recently been delivered, while the public services model – designed for roles such as Search and Rescue (SAR), Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and law enforcement – is anticipated to hit the market in late 2017.
