Boeing Australia Ignites Innovation with the Debut of Its First Loyal Wingman Aircraft
Boeing Australia achieved a significant milestone by powering up the commercial turbofan engine on the inaugural Loyal Wingman aircraft this September. This crucial step is part of the ground testing and preparations leading to its first flight.
This achievement follows Boeing’s successful completion of the first unmanned Loyal Wingman aircraft for the Royal Australian Air Force earlier this year. The Loyal Wingman serves as a vital component of the Boeing Airpower Teaming System, an innovative, AI-driven teaming aircraft designed for the global defense sector.
“This engine run brings us closer to flying the first aircraft later this year, thanks to the teamwork and commitment of our dedicated professionals,” said Dr. Shane Arnott, program director of the Boeing Airpower Teaming System. “Our choice of a lightweight, off-the-shelf jet engine for this unmanned vehicle highlights the advanced manufacturing technologies utilized in its development.”
