Finmeccanica Secures Deal for 28 Eurofighter Typhoons with Kuwait

Contract Signed for Eurofighter Typhoon Delivery to Kuwait

Rome, 05 April 2016 – The Kuwait Ministry of Defence and Finmeccanica have officially inked a contract for the procurement of 28 advanced Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft, which will be produced in Italy. This agreement, part of an intergovernmental pact between Kuwait and Italy, was witnessed by the Italian Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti alongside her Kuwaiti counterpart, H.E. SHAIKH Gen. Khaled Al Jarrah Al Sabah.

The contract not only covers the delivery of aircraft but also encompasses vital logistics and operational support, as well as the training of flight crews and ground personnel. This training will be conducted in collaboration with the Italian Air Force, ensuring high operational standards.

Additionally, the agreement includes enhancements to ground-based infrastructure in Kuwait, specifically tailored for Typhoon operations, positioning Kuwait for advanced military readiness.

The Kuwait Eurofighter Typhoon will come equipped with the latest E-Scan radar (Electronically Scanned Array radar), which has been developed by the European EuroRADAR consortium, led by Finmeccanica. This state-of-the-art radar system significantly enhances the aircraft’s operational capabilities.

This landmark contract arose from a comprehensive flight and technical assessment of various competing aircraft within the same category. It is emblematic of the growing partnership between the Italian Ministry of Defence and the Kuwait Ministry of Defence, further reinforcing cooperation among the Eurofighter consortium members, which includes the UK, Germany, and Spain.

“This represents Finmeccanica’s largest commercial achievement to date,” remarked Mauro Moretti, CEO and General Manager of Finmeccanica. “This deal marks a significant industrial milestone that promises extensive benefits not only for our company and other Eurofighter consortium partners but also for the Italian aerospace industry as a whole. This contract will bolster expertise and create skilled job opportunities at small and medium-sized enterprises in the security and defence sector.”
