India Successfully Launches French MICA Missile from Su-30MKI Fighter Jet
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has successfully conducted covert test-firings of two French MICA missiles from a Su-30MKI fighter jet on August 17 and 18, marking a significant step ahead of the missile’s expected integration with the Rafale aircraft.
According to defence sources, the MICA missile, renowned for its anti-air multi-target capabilities, was launched from the Sukhoi-30 MKI and effectively destroyed expendable aerial targets (EATs), showcasing its advanced stealth features.
Launched from the Kalaikunda airbase in West Bengal, the jet, equipped with the Beyond Visual Range (BVR) air-to-air MICA missile, successfully neutralised a drone that simulated enemy aircraft at low altitudes.
“The IAF is actively enhancing its squadrons and is in the procurement process for the Meteor missile from European weapon manufacturer MBDA. Both the Rafale and its fleet will be upgraded with MICA and Meteor capabilities,” officials noted.
