India’s Bold Move: Securing Raytheon’s Stinger Missile Technology
India Strengthens Defense with U.S. Stinger Missile Acquisition
The Indian Ministry of Defence has made a significant move by finalizing an agreement on the 30th of March with the U.S. Department of Defense. This agreement involves the procurement of Stinger air-to-air missiles manufactured by Raytheon Company. As part of this strategic deal, India will receive 245 Stinger missiles, in addition to launchers and essential engineering support.
Duane Gooden, Vice President of Raytheon Land Warfare Systems, stated, “India joins nations globally that recognize the air-to-air Stinger as a crucial asset for attack and light attack helicopter mission configurations.” He noted that the Stinger enhances the operational capabilities of aircraft, enabling them to effectively tackle current threats.
The Stinger missile, proven in four major conflicts, boasts over 270 successful intercepts involving both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. Its reliability has led to deployment across 19 nations, including all four branches of the U.S. military.
This acquisition aligns with India’s broader defense strategy, being part of a comprehensive $3.1 billion package with the U.S. that encompasses combat helicopters, advanced weaponry, radar systems, and electronic warfare capabilities.
