Norway Enhances Its NASAMS Air Defense: A New Era of Security

Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace AS (KONGSBERG) has secured a contract worth approximately MNOK 266 from the Norwegian Materiel Defence Agency for the enhancement of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS).

The modernization of the NASAMS Sentinel radar’s Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) guarantees the system functions according to future NATO standards, further elevating the already robust identification of friendly aircraft.

“Norway is committed to strengthening its ground-based air defense capability by adopting the latest available technology. This modernization will bolster NATO commonality and reinforce the NASAMS effectiveness,” states Kjetil Reiten Myhra, Executive Vice President of Integrated Defence Systems at KONGSBERG.

NASAMS is celebrated for its distributed architecture and adaptive network solution, proficient in addressing a broad range of air defense missions.

NASAMS holds the distinction of being the most widely utilized air defense system in its category, developed collaboratively over many years by the longstanding partnership between Raytheon and KONGSBERG.
