Qatar Airways Expands Its Fleet with 20 New Boeing 777-9 Jets!
Boeing and Qatar Airways proclaimed today the Middle Eastern airline’s acquisition of 20 additional 777-9 jets, which will be the globe’s largest and most fuel-efficient twin-engine aircraft. The acquisition, which enlarges the carrier’s 777X order portfolio to nearly 100 jets, was concluded this year and recorded as undisclosed on Boeing’s Orders & Deliveries platform.
The acclaimed airline played a significant role in launching the 777X initiative and currently has 60 777-9 passenger jets on order. Qatar Airways also stands as the inaugural launch customer for the 777-8 Freighter, with 34 of the next-generation cargo aircraft on order.
Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer, Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer, remarked: “Qatar Airways is delighted to announce an enhancement to our existing Boeing 777X aircraft order with 20 more, bringing the total to 94 Boeing 777X aircraft. As the World’s Best Airline, we are an industry frontrunner, operating one of the most modern fleets, delivering unmatched innovation and quality. With a forward-looking approach, we strive to ensure that all Qatar Airways travelers experience only the finest products and services available in aviation.”
Derived from the esteemed Boeing 777 series and incorporating cutting-edge technologies from the 787 Dreamliner, the 777X program aims to establish fresh benchmarks in efficiency, environmental sustainability, and passenger comfort. The 777-9 is the largest variant in the series, facilitating operators to explore new avenues for growth with a capacity for 426 passengers in a standard two-class layout and a range of 7,295 nautical miles (13,510 km).
Earlier this month, Boeing commenced certification flight trials for the 777-9, which will present an enhanced level of passenger comfort featuring a spacious cabin, improved humidity control, a serene atmosphere, and increased natural lighting.
“Qatar Airways is a pioneer in our sector, and we are privileged that the airline has added 20 more 777-9 jets to its extensive Boeing order portfolio,” stated Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “We value their trust that Boeing’s leading widebody family will deliver exceptional fuel efficiency and an outstanding passenger experience for their international operations.”
Besides the 777X series, Qatar Airways has placed orders for 12 787 Dreamliners and 25 737 MAX aircraft.
Boeing’s 2024 Commercial Market Outlook predicts that twin-aisle airplanes like the 777X and 787 Dreamliner will constitute 44% of the fleet within the region’s operators over the forthcoming two decades.
