Boeing and Qatar Airways Reveal Landmark Acquisition for up to 210 Widebody Aircraft

Qatar Airways and Boeing have jointly revealed that the airline will acquire up to 210 widebody aircraft, establishing new benchmarks as the largest widebody acquisition for Boeing, which includes the most extensive order for 787 Dreamliners and Qatar Airways’ most significant order to date.

This acquisition, which also encompasses additional orders for Boeing’s innovative 777-9, will facilitate approximately 400,000 employment opportunities in the U.S. and position the acclaimed Middle Eastern airline for further global expansion.

The acquisition comprises:

• 130 787 Dreamliners, the long-haul, ultra-efficient widebody aircraft line that has achieved a 25% enhancement in fuel efficiency compared to previous models, along with exceptional comfort for travelers. Ten orders were previously recorded as unbranded.

• 30 777-9s, the world’s largest twin-engine aircraft, engineered to establish new benchmarks in efficiency by cutting fuel consumption and emissions by 25% compared to predecessor aircraft, while enhancing the passenger travel experience.

• Options for an additional 50 787 and 777X aircraft.

U.S. President Donald J. Trump and His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, accompanied Boeing President and CEO Kelly Ortberg, Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope, and Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer to witness the signing of the order.

“We are thrilled to announce our agreement with Boeing and our collaboration in the most substantial aircraft order in our history. A pivotal next phase for Qatar Airways as we invest in the cleanest, latest, and most efficient fleet in global aviation. This enables us to meet the surging demand in the airline market as we connect passengers to the world more effectively than anyone else,” stated Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive Officer Engr. Badr Mohammed Al-Meer. “Following two consecutive years of record-setting commercial accomplishments and with this momentous Boeing aircraft order, we are not merely pursuing scale; we are fortifying our capabilities, which will allow us to continue to deliver our unparalleled products and customer experiences. We appreciate our Boeing partners for their support and anticipate a future of sustained intelligent growth together.”

“We are profoundly grateful that Qatar Airways has placed this record-setting order with Boeing, one that strengthens their future fleet with our leading widebody aircraft series at its core,” remarked Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “Our team eagerly awaits the opportunity to manufacture 787s and 777s for Qatar Airways over the coming decade as they link more individuals and businesses around the globe with unmatched efficiency and comfort.”

Qatar Airways currently operates over 150 Boeing aircraft, including 777 and 787 passenger jets along with 777 Freighters. With this purchase, Qatar Airways will become the predominant 787 Dreamliner operator in the Middle East.
