Boeing and Gulf Air have proclaimed a deal for the acquisition of 12 787 Dreamliner aircraft with options for an additional six as the Bahrain-based airline aims to enhance its international network. Upon completion, this order will expand the airline’s firm order book to 14 of these versatile widebody aircraft and will sustain 30,000 positions throughout the U.S.

Bahrain’s Minister of Finance and National Economy Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa and U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick accompanied Boeing Commercial Airplanes President and CEO Stephanie Pope and Gulf Air Group Chairman Khalid Taqi to observe the signing event.

“This arrangement signifies a pivotal milestone in Gulf Air’s strategic development journey as we broaden our global presence and modernize our fleet with one of the sector’s most advanced and efficient aircraft,” stated Khalid Taqi, chairman of Gulf Air Group. “The Boeing 787 Dreamliner has demonstrated outstanding efficiency in our long-haul operations, and this latest order mirrors our trust in its performance, passenger engagement, and contribution to our sustainability initiatives. We are eager to strengthen our collaboration with Boeing and reaffirm our commitment to establishing Bahrain as a major global aviation center.”

The 787 Dreamliner, acclaimed for its fuel efficiency, extensive range, and passenger experience, already functions as the backbone of Gulf Air’s long-haul services connecting over 50 destinations. With 10 787 aircraft currently in operation, the airline is strategically situated to expand its network, catering to both new and existing markets across Asia, Europe, and the U.S.

“We are thrilled to build on our more than 60-year alliance with Gulf Air as we supply the market-leading 787 Dreamliner to assist the airline in accommodating more passengers and linking additional destinations,” remarked Stephanie Pope, president and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “This investment in the 787 Dreamliner illustrates Gulf Air’s dedication to cutting-edge technology and sustainable advancement, further solidifying Bahrain’s role in the aviation industry.”

The 787 Dreamliner family has revolutionized international air travel by inaugurating over 425 new nonstop routes and transporting more than 1 billion passengers globally since its commercial debut in 2011. Positioned as Gulf Air’s flagship aircraft, the 787 boasts the largest windows of any widebody jet, air with reduced dryness, and pressurized at a lower cabin altitude for enhanced comfort, along with technology that detects and mitigates turbulence for a smoother journey.

From its initial DC-3 in 1961, Gulf Air has accepted delivery of 37 Boeing aircraft, including the current fleet of 787 jets.
