Raytheon, a division of RTX, has secured a $74 million contract to produce RAM Guided Missile Launching Systems (GMLS) for the United States Navy.

As per the accord, Raytheon will deliver several new launching systems, refurbish existing units, and provide the essential hardware for upgrades, along with various spare components.

“This contract represents the largest single order of U.S. RAM launchers in more than two decades and will ensure our naval forces remain robustly defended against anti-ship threats,” asserted Barbara Borgonovi, head of Naval Power at Raytheon. “Our persistent dedication to enhancing production capabilities enables us to meet the escalating global demand for the most sophisticated short-range maritime self-defense missile system.”

Celebrating its 50th anniversary in the coming year, the RAM weapon system – featuring the RAM launcher and missiles – is a joint initiative between the U.S. and Germany, with Raytheon serving as the principal contractor for U.S. Navy requirements. The system is currently operational on over 165 vessels across 11 countries, ranging from swift patrol vessels to aircraft carriers, and is being incorporated into several new classes of U.S. Navy ships, including the Arleigh Burke class of guided-missile destroyers.

The majority of the activities associated with this contract will take place in Louisville, Kentucky and is expected to be completed by 2028.
