“Naval Group Unites Hellenic Innovators: Second Annual R&D Partners Summit in Athens”
Naval Group serves as a prominent industrial collaborator with the Hellenic Navy and is actively enhancing its R&D collaborations with Hellenic enterprises, educational institutions, and research organizations to foster the advancement of future Hellenic naval combat capabilities.
The second iteration of the R&D Partners Days underscores the significance for Naval Group to discover, structure, and reinforce collaborations with Hellenic entities on state-of-the-art technologies across various domains such as unmanned systems (UxV), artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, energy storage and generation, augmented reality, smart maintenance, and eco-design.

Collaborations with Hellenic academic allies
Naval Group has formed alliances with three prestigious Hellenic universities: the National Technical University of Athens, the University of Patras, and the FORTH Research Centre. These collaborations have resulted in productive academic exchanges between the National Technical University of Athens and ENSTA Bretagne to advance research on composite materials.
Collaboration on European initiatives
Since the inaugural edition of the R&D Partners Days in June 2021, Naval Group and its partners have responded to several European initiatives, including the Modular Multirole Patrol Corvette program, which involved six Hellenic firms: Terra Spatium, IDE, ISD, FEAC Engineering, Prisma Electronics, and Hydrus.
Additionally, two Horizon Europe projects focusing on composite materials—Ithaca and Joining MAMA—were awarded, with the Group collaborating with the University of Patras and the University of Thessaloniki.
Various Hellenic partners have shared insights on ongoing successful European programs such as USSPS (Unmanned Semi-fixed Sea Platforms for Maritime Surveillance), MIRICLE (Mine Risk Clearance for Europe), and PANDORA. Special emphasis has also been placed on the cybersecurity sector, which remains a vital area of collaboration for Naval Group.
The GDDIA (General Directorate for Defense Investments and Armaments) also showcased their innovation strategy. Discussions on future collaboration in pioneering domains ensued, facilitated by the support and coordination of SEKPY (association of Hellenic Defence Manufacturers) and HASDIG (Hellenic Aerospace Security & Defense Industries Group).
