Saab Unveils Advanced Combat Training Solutions for the Dutch Military
Saab has finalized an agreement for the provision of live training systems and services to the Netherlands military forces. This contract entails the delivery of state-of-the-art equipment and features at 727 MSEK, along with a decade-long support agreement valued annually at 66.9 MSEK. The comprehensive order over the ten-year span is estimated at around 1.4 billion SEK. Furthermore, the contract includes an option for an additional five years of support after the initial ten-year phase.
The contract encompasses the supply of an enhanced Mobile Combat Training Centre (MCTC), showcasing Saab’s latest market proposal with upgraded capabilities and functionalities. Noteworthy examples include the “Mortar and Forward Observer” skill set, which incorporates a blend of live and virtual training methodologies, referred to as blended training.
Blended training unveils a new facet of exercise monitoring, allowing operators to supervise the entire training range, as well as individual soldiers in augmented reality. Additionally, it features the latest generation of a vehicle simulation platform. The support aspect consists of deployable, integrated logistics and operational assistance to the Dutch military.
“This order guarantees that the Royal Netherlands Army and the Netherlands Marine Corps are equipped with cutting-edge, adaptable training solutions and the essential training capabilities. This will empower them to conduct training precisely when needed and as authentically as possible. Concurrently, they will maintain full interoperability with NATO and allied forces,” states Åsa Thegström, Head of Saab’s Training & Simulation division.
“This is a long-range solution that will elevate our training capabilities and ensure the ability to train our forces domestically, and in collaboration with our global partners. Through this enhancement, we aim to boost the realism and adaptability of our training, while improving interoperability with our allies,” remarks Ltgen. M. Wijnen, Chief of the Royal Netherlands Army.
Saab initially procured the order for the MCTC for the Dutch military in 2000 and has consistently provided upgrades and support services for that initiative. This latest order will prolong the viability of this capability by a maximum of 15 years. Additionally, this contract encompasses enhancements to the Military Operations Urban Terrain facility, which has been operational since 2004.
