Sweden Expands BvS10 All-Terrain Vehicle Arsenal with 127 New Units
BAE Systems has finalized a contract valued at approximately $200 million to manufacture and supply 127 BvS10 all-terrain vehicles to the Swedish Army, boosting its current fleet of BvS10s.
The agreement established with the Swedish defense procurement agency, FMV, encompasses both command and control as well as logistics vehicles. The delivery of the 127 units is scheduled to commence in 2022 and conclude in 2024.
This vehicle is capable of navigating rocks, mountains, snow, swamps, and Arctic conditions, and its amphibious functionality enables a seamless transition to swimming. The BvS10’s adaptable and modular structure accommodates evolving mission requirements, including advanced combat management.
Sweden already operates the BvS10 alongside its predecessor Bv206, and expanding the BvS10 fleet will bolster the Army’s capacity to effectively execute its missions.
“The investment from Sweden equips the Swedish Army with additional highly mobile, proficient, and durable vehicles. This ongoing investment in the BvS10 signifies a critical step toward further prospects in Sweden and globally for the BvS10 and its Beowulf unarmored variant,” remarked Tommy Gustafsson-Rask, managing director of BAE Systems Hägglunds. “This also exemplifies the solid and trusted partnership between BAE Systems and the Swedish client to deliver the capabilities the Swedish military requires.”
The Swedish BvS10s are designed with improved crew ergonomics, increased internal space, and enhanced protection, building upon BAE Systems’ heritage vehicles like the Bv206, over 10,000 of which have been sold to more than 40 nations. The BvS10 has been utilized in operations in Afghanistan, Central Africa, the Balkans, and the Middle East.
“We are noticing a rising interest from numerous countries for exceptional mobility capabilities, similar to those showcased on our BvS10 and Beowulf platforms. We are particularly eager for the collaborative all-terrain procurement involving Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom,” added Gustafsson-Rask.
Presently, Austria, France, the Netherlands, Sweden, and the United Kingdom are users of the BvS10.
Note: This announcement is separate from the joint “4-nations” procurement discussed previously – that is a distinct procurement declared by the nations SE, DE, NL, UK where Sweden is leading the initiative.
