Luxembourg Army Unveils Cutting-Edge Armoured Vehicles by Thales to Boost European Defense Synergy
The Luxembourg Directorate of Defence has chosen Thales alongside its collaborators General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) and FN Herstal to deliver 80 command, liaison and reconnaissance vehicles (CLRV) for the Luxembourg Army.
The purchasing initiative, overseen by the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA), aims to furnish the Luxembourg military with a cutting-edge fleet of terrestrial vehicles that are compatible with other NATO nations.
As the primary contractor for this program, Thales will supply all necessary onboard technologies to facilitate data-driven operations and collaborative missions, including the standard vehicle architecture (vetronics) and the software-defined radio systems developed as part of France’s CONTACT initiative.
The Luxembourg Directorate of Defence has confirmed the acquisition of 80 combat-ready command, liaison and reconnaissance vehicles (CLRV) to equip the Luxembourg Army with a contemporary, secure, and interoperable solution, empowering the country’s armed forces to effectively carry out their duties.
In order to tackle emerging threats and showcase solidarity with their NATO companions, the Luxembourg military is in the midst of upgrading their capabilities to enhance operational efficiency under any conditions and execute various military reconnaissance assignments.
Armed vehicle crews remain particularly exposed. To function more efficiently and safely, they must comprehend, decide, and act quicker than adversaries at all times. Information needs to be disseminated immediately so that threats can be neutralized as swiftly as possible after being identified. Thales and its collaborators offer the level of proficiency in digital systems and advanced equipment that the Luxembourg armed forces require to remain better safeguarded in all scenarios, including high-intensity engagements.
The initiative encompasses the acquisition of 80 command, liaison and reconnaissance vehicles (CLRV), along with the logistical assistance and communication system enhancements necessary to maximize vehicle functionality and optimize fleet readiness.
In addition to its role as the main contractor, Thales is tasked – similar to its contributions to France’s Scorpion program – with developing and producing the standard combat vetronics for the new platforms, which include the deployment of the vehicles’ communication, local situational awareness, self-defense, and navigation systems.
This enhanced interoperability between the Luxembourg and French land forces could serve as a foundation for future collaborative military operations on an international scale.
“We are thrilled that the Luxembourg Directorate of Defence has chosen to place its confidence in Thales and our partners to advance its armed forces into the realm of collaborative combat. As an established leader in intelligent onboard systems, Thales is honored to contribute to projecting Luxembourg’s operational capabilities into the future.” Alain Quevrin, Thales Country Director Belgium and Luxembourg.
