The Australian Government has chosen DCNS as its favored global partner for the development of 12 Future submarines for the Royal Australian Navy. The announcement was disclosed by the Australian Prime Minister, the Hon. Malcolm Turnbull, alongside the Minister for Defence, Senator the Hon. Marise Payne, the Minister for Industry, Innovation and Science, the Hon. Christopher Pyne, and The Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett. The Australian Government remarked: “The determination was influenced by DCNS’s capability to efficiently fulfill all of the Australian Government’s specifications. These encompassed advanced sensor performance and stealth features, in addition to range and endurance akin to the Collins Class submarine. The Government’s evaluations also included finances, timelines, program execution, lifetime support, and involvement of the Australian industry.”
“This achievement has been made feasible due to the robust collaboration between the French Authorities, DCNS, and our industrial partners,” commented DCNS Chairman and CEO, Mr. Herve Guillou.
“France and Australia have maintained an alliance for over a century, and we anticipate further enhancing this historic partnership while honoring the trust the Australian Commonwealth Government places in us for this groundbreaking initiative,” Mr. Guillou stated. Following discussions on commercial matters, the design phase for the Future Submarine with DCNS is set to commence this year.
