
General Dynamics Enhances Navy’s Independence-Class Littoral Combat Ship with Cutting-Edge Combat Solutions
General Dynamics Mission Systems proclaimed today that it has received two contracts from the U.S. Navy valued at $30.5 million to bolster various maintenance and enhancement efforts for the Navy’s Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) fleet.
Under a $17.4 million agreement revealed by the Department of Defense (DOD) on May 4, General Dynamics Mission Systems will enhance and upgrade the Independence-variant LCS fleet’s hull mechanical & electrical systems, which encompass software enhancements and upkeep of the engineering control system. This project will be executed in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Mobile, Alabama, San Diego, Philadelphia, and Singapore, with a completion target set for May 2026.
As part of a $13.1 million agreement disclosed by DOD on May 24, General Dynamics Mission Systems will deliver in-service engineering and lifecycle support for the Independence-variant LCS, focusing on Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cybersecurity, and Intelligence training systems. This includes essential engineering, design, integration, testing, software development and assessment, logistics product creation and distribution, along with configuration management. The contract has options that could escalate its total value to $79,222,498. Operations will be conducted in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, Mobile, Alabama, San Diego, and Singapore, anticipated to wrap up by May 2026.
