UAE Navy Welcomes Cutting-Edge Gowind Corvette from Naval Group

The transfer ceremony for the Gowind® corvette Al Emarat, commissioned by the United Arab Emirates from Naval Group, took place on 27th June 2024 in Lorient, attended by an official delegation from the UAE Navy, led by the Deputy Commander of the UAE Navy, Brigadier Abdulla Al Mehairbi.

Al Emarat is the second Gowind® corvette acquired by the UAE from Naval Group in 2019. Built in Lorient and launched in May 2022, it began its sea trials in October 2023, coinciding with the delivery of the first corvette, Bani Yas.

The crew of Al Emarat will continue their operational training in France, provided as part of the support solutions offered by Naval Group. The vessel is scheduled to sail to the UAE under the Emirati flag in July, with an expected arrival in Abu Dhabi in August.

“I am honored to be here with you on this extraordinary occasion for Naval Group as we officially present the second Gowind Al Emarat to the UAE Navy. Naval Group has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the success of the Bani Yas program, working closely alongside the UAE Navy, and we are delighted today to host our Emirati guests for the flag handover ceremony of the Al Emarat corvette.”
