UAE Navy Receives Next-Gen Gowind Corvette from Naval Group
The handover ceremony of the Gowind® corvette Al Emarat, commissioned by the United Arab Emirates to Naval Group, occurred on 27th June 2024 in Lorient, attended by an official delegation from the UAE Navy, headed by the Deputy Commander of the UAE Navy, Brigadier Abdulla Al Mehairbi.
Al Emarat is the second Gowind® corvette procured by the UAE from Naval Group in 2019. Constructed in Lorient and launched in May 2022, she commenced her sea trials in October 2023, coinciding with the delivery of the first corvette, Bani Yas.
The Al Emarat crew will carry on in France with their operational ship training provided as part of the service solutions extended by Naval Group. The vessel will set sail to the UAE under the Emirati flag in July, with a projected arrival in Abu Dhabi in August.
“I am deeply privileged to be with you on this remarkable day for Naval Group as we present the second Gowind Al Emarat to the UAE Navy. Naval Group has shown its steadfast dedication to the success of the Bani Yas initiative, in close collaboration with the UAE Navy, and we are thrilled today to host our Emirati guests for the flag transfer ceremony of the Al Emarat corvette.”
