“MBDA Lands Landmark Contract for TESEO MK2/E Anti-Ship Missile Manufacturing with Italian Navy”

MBDA has secured a production deal for the TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile intended for the Italian Navy

MBDA has formalized a partnership with the National Directorate of Naval Armaments to produce the TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missile, which is currently under development for the Italian Navy.

This agreement involves the supply of advanced TESEO MK2/E anti-ship missiles, designed for the Italian Navy’s new vessels. This encompasses the FREMM EVO class frigates, the MPCS/PPA (Multi-Purpose Combat Ship/Pattugliatori Polivalenti d’Altura), and the upcoming DDX destroyers. Moreover, the missile will upgrade the earlier MK2/A variant, which is presently operational on the FREMM and Horizon class naval platforms.

The production contract follows the one established in 2021 for the missile’s development, integration, and qualification. The TESEO MK2/E represents a completely innovative weapon system designed to meet the requirements of the Italian Navy. Boasting its Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) seeker technology, this cutting-edge missile offers outstanding performance. For example, it can target both long-range naval and land-based threats, supports enhanced mission planning with in-flight missile control via a satellite data link, and features a secondary deep strike capability.

Lorenzo Mariani, MBDA Executive Group Director of Sales & Business Development, and Managing Director of MBDA in Italy, stated: “I take great pride in the conclusion of this agreement, which highlights the success of a process perfectly aligned with our Navy. Furthermore, it entirely corresponds with the roadmaps established during the development contract. Commencing production of the TESEO MK2/E illustrates not just that the product is advanced and fully meets the Navy’s expectations but also that it fits seamlessly into MBDA’s portfolio, providing a new benchmark capability in the anti-ship landscape, to be showcased to international markets as well.”

TESEO MK2/E responds to emerging threats that necessitate the adoption of innovative operational needs. This next-generation missile is versatile and positioned to satisfy the demands of international clients. It builds on decades of experience from the TESEO family (renowned globally as OTOMAT) and is set to significantly augment anti-ship defenses.
