Otokar Lands €857 Million Pact for Advanced COBRA II Armored Fleet with Romania’s Defense Forces
Global defense systems manufacturer OTOKAR, in partnership with ROMTEHNICA, which acts on behalf of the Ministry of National Defense, has secured a long-term agreement worth 4.26 billion Romanian lei (approximately EUR-857 Million) to supply 1,059 COBRA II 4×4 armored vehicles to the Romanian Ministry of Defense. A considerable amount of the COBRA II 4×4 units will be produced locally in Romania.
On November 27, 2024, Otokar finalized the agreement under which Romania’s Ministry of National Defense appointed the company to provide 1,059 COBRA II 4×4 lightweight tactical armored vehicles, with a financial scope nearing 857 million euros (excluding VAT).
As part of the contract, the initial delivery of 278 COBRA II 4×4 tactical light armored units will be assembled in Türkiye, while the remaining units will be crafted in Romania. The delivery timeline is expected to start in the final quarter of 2025 and will unfold over five years in various stages. The proposal also includes comprehensive logistical support services alongside the 1,059 4×4 Light Armored Tactical Vehicles.
On March 20, 2024, Otokar submitted its bid for the procurement of 4×4 Light Armored Tactical Vehicles called for by C.N. Romtehnica S.A., representing the Ministry of National Defense. After successfully progressing through the technical evaluation, field tests, and financial analyses, Otokar was informed on October 4, 2024, of its selection as the top contender for the contract.
COBRA II IS CURRENTLY IN USE BY 13 COUNTRIES
The COBRA II 4×4 tactical armored vehicle, crafted by Otokar, is presently in operation with over 20 operators spanning 13 countries.
