“Hanwha Aerospace Partners with University of Surrey to Launch New Era of Space Innovation”
Hanwha Aerospace has established a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the University of Surrey in the UK to engage in collaborative satellite technical demonstration initiatives. This non-binding MoU was executed on July 25th at the university during Farnborough International Airshow 2024.
According to the agreement, both parties will embark on joint activities to assess areas of mutual interest in the civil domain of space, aimed at addressing the current launch capacity constraints and the escalating demand for satellite data.
Among the suggested joint activities are a series of satellite technical demonstration initiatives utilizing satellite platforms from the university, alongside launch services provided by Hanwha’s Nuri rockets; the creation of new commercial applications and services based on the data and capabilities offered by
the relevant satellites.
“The involved parties will collaboratively identify appropriate projects of shared interest that can receive support and development in both entities and nations,” the MoU articulates, indicating that additional spheres of collaboration will be investigated further.
The partnership between Hanwha and Surrey arises in response to the heightened demand for space-dependent services, as the global market is confronting a shortfall in launch capabilities, primarily due to the discrepancy between the soaring need for satellite launches and the limited availability of launch services.
