Rheinmetall Canada Secures Major Deal for Ongoing Support of Advanced Surveillance Technology

The Canadian administration granted Rheinmetall Canada a maintenance agreement for the Persistent Surveillance System, also known as PSS. Initiating in 2021, this agreement spans one year, with the possibility of additional yearly renewals.

As the principal contractor, Rheinmetall Canada Inc., located in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Québec, will deliver repair and refurbishment services for the eight PSS units presently operational within the Canadian Armed Forces.

The PSS comprises aerostat- and tower-based sensors that are integrated with a ground control station. This setup allows for instantaneous exploitation of sensors in the land C4ISR sector (command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance).

Subsequent to the initial acquisition of the PSS by the Canadian administration in 2009, Rheinmetall executed a first in-service support contract from 2015 to 2021.

“We regard this latest agreement as a testament to the Canadian Armed Forces’ confidence in Rheinmetall Canada’s capability to sustain and enhance their Persistent Surveillance Systems,” expressed Pietro Mazzei, vice-president of Electronic Solutions at Rheinmetall Canada. “This new agreement also assists us in preserving valuable jobs in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu,” Mr. Mazzei further stated.
