Powerhouses Collide: Kongsberg, Diehl, and MBDA Deutschland Launch the Game-Changing 3SM Tyrfing Supersonic Missile!
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace (“KONGSBERG”), in alliance with its German partners Diehl and MBDA Deutschland, have united efforts to ensure the effective development of the upcoming Norwegian and German super-sonic strike missile known as 3SM Tyrfing.
The Norwegian administration disclosed this initiative in November 2023, and the industrial consortium vital for the achievement of this undertaking has now formalized their partnership agreement.
This coalition, led by KONGSBERG, combines the knowledge of these companies and draws upon years of missile innovation expertise to design this advanced, long-range, agile super-sonic strike missile for both Norwegian and German stakeholders, alongside Allied partners in the future.
The team will work in close collaboration with the Norwegian and German Armed Forces and their national research bodies to delineate and develop the globe’s most sophisticated long-range strike capability aimed at countering forthcoming surface threats.
“I am truly impressed by the depth and skillsets of this group. I look forward to collaborating with Diehl and MBDA Deutschland to integrate our teams’ insights and expertise to further develop the 3SM for both of our nations,” expressed Eirik Lie, President of Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace.
Thomas Gottschild, Managing Director of MBDA Deutschland, commented: “As we have noted over the past two years, stand-off munitions are critical for reliable deterrence and protection. Merging our companies will strengthen the Norwegian, German, and European military capabilities, enhancing the defense of our nations.”
“We take pride in assembling a team comprised of the finest specialists from our firms, who complement each other’s strengths, trust one another, and contribute their unique insights and abilities. Together, we will develop a groundbreaking system with 3SM that none of us could realize alone,” stated Helmut Rauch, CEO of Diehl Defence.
