Raytheon Secures $423 Million US Navy Contract for Cutting-Edge SPY-6 Radar Technology
Raytheon Missiles & Defense, a division of Raytheon Technologies, has been granted a $423 million agreement to persist in manufacturing SPY-6 radar systems for the U.S. Navy. This represents the inaugural option exercised from the March 2022 hardware, production, and maintenance contract valued at up to $3.16 billion over a five-year duration.
“SPY-6 is the leading surface naval radar globally, and agreements of this nature guarantee that sailors throughout the fleet will be armed with the insights, tracking, and detection capabilities it offers,” remarked Kim Ernzen, president of Naval Power at Raytheon Missiles & Defense. “SPY-6 radar systems have already been provided to numerous ships, with installation currently in progress.”
The SPY-6 radar family is capable of defending against ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, hostile aircraft, and surface vessels simultaneously. They offer a multitude of benefits over traditional radar systems, including remarkably enhanced detection range, improved sensitivity, and more precise discrimination. Their flexible and modular radar arrays minimize costs and maintenance demands while fulfilling the operational needs of seven different classes of vessels.
